This is one of the most popular destinations which is frequently visited by thousands of tourists every year. Adam’s peak really conical mountain which is nearly 2000 feet in height. Srilankans believe that “Lord Buddha”, one of the greatest philosophers in the history of the world has kept his foot on the top of this rock, so the devotees could see and worship it. The word Sripada means the Sacred foot.
But the wonderful thing about adam’s peak is that many different people belong to various religions visit and worship this place. Hindu people believe that the footprint on the top of this gigantic mountain belongs to their gods Hanuman or Shiva. Muslim people worship this place believing that the footprint belongs to Adam.
Adam’s Peak is located in the southern side of the Central Highlands. Its belongs to the Ratnapura District and Nuwara Eliya district. Located about 40 km to the northeast of the city of Ratnapura and about 32 km southwest to the Hatton city. The environment here has many large forests and hills. This is the most enormous hill out of all the huge sized hills nearby. This region along the mountain is a wildlife reserve. It is the house to myriads of species varying from elephants to leopards as well as for thousands of indigenous species.
