Jaffna city is located at the northern end of Sri Lanka. Jaffna was not open for visitors for a long period of time due to terrorism. However, the terrorists were exterminated by government forces in 2006 and now it is open for visitors. Jaffna, just like the other cities in the northern area has a very tropical climate condition and the heat is oppressive when the sun mounts up to its peak. However, there are many significant places that we could see here in Jaffna. Jaffna museum, Nallur Kovol are some of the great and popular destinations we could see here.
Sangilian statue in Jaffna is a great statue that we all must-see. Pangilinan Statue represents the last king of the pre-colonial Kingdom of Jaffna. North of the city is many of stone Buddhist stupas at the ruins of Kadurugoda Viharaya. There are many bathing tanks at Keerimalai, Jaffna which are fed by underground springs.
